The Mayo International Choral Festival have announced that the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins and Mrs Sabina Higgins will attend as guests of honour at the Concert For Peace in Knock Basilica on Saturday May 14 which will commemorate the 1916 Rising and World War I. The unprecedented scale of such a concert in this venue will see close to 200 artists perform on the night, all presented by lauded broadcaster, RTÉ Lyric FM’s Liz Nolan. Conductor extraordinaire David Brophy of RTÉ’s award winning High Hopes Choir and instrumental fame brings his impressive experience to proceedings, conducting this special event.

Local construction company Stewart has won awards in four categories at The Irish Design and Build Award, where more than 500 people from the world of architecture, engineering, construction and design attended the biggest annual awards ceremony in the industry to date. Mezzo Soprano Anne Marie Gibbons, who is originally from Louisburgh will perform alongside the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and the 120 member Peace Choir, on May 14 at 8pm in Knock Basilica. The performance will include the well known aria Vida Cor Meum as a duet with Tenor Owen Gilhooly.

Following her recent haunting and evocative performance during the Centenary concert at Easter, as part of the National 1916 celebrations, the organisers of the Concert For Peace at Knock Basilica were delighted when it was announced just after the concert that Sibeal Ni Chasaide is to be added to the stellar line up of performers on May 14.

One of the biggest mosaics of its kind in Europe is to be unveiled during the 12 noon Mass at Our Lady’s Basilica at Knock Shrine this Sunday (February 28). The impressive artwork, measuring 14 metres x 14 metres, is made up of more than 1.5 million individual pieces of mosaic and depicts in great detail the Apparition at Knock in 1879, as described by 15 ordinary villagers who witnessed the extraordinary vision.
